The Ubaye is a torrential river of 83 km which takes its source at the Italian border and ends into the Lake of Serre Ponçon where it joins the Durance. From the source to the main town of the valley (Barcelonnette, 2,800 inhabitants ), the Alpine valley is extremely well preserved. The Pont du Chatelet (old bridge) and Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye are worth a visit. The lower valleyis deep and impressive, it's ideal for rafting.
The lower valley is located at 18 km from the Gîte des Silves.
